Made from natural materials; ceramic and cork the Emile Henry Salt Cellar prevents excess humidity and helps keep your salt (or sugar) from clumping together. It can also be used to keep nuts or small chili peppers handy for use. Cork contains suberin, which has antifungal properties, doesn’t absorb moisture, and repels fruit flies. Care instructions:

For the ceramic bowl:

  • Dishwasher safe but we recommend washing by hand
  • For stubborn residue, soak in hot water and white vinegar.

For the lid:

  • The cork material is food-safe and will “age” well over time. It can be cleaned with a damp sponge, if needed, but should not be soaked in water
  • Whilst cork has the ability to “breathe/absorb” some excess humidity from stored goods (and to release it subsequently), it is recommended to check for bruised fruits regularly to avoid excessive liquid leaking from ageing items. It also pays to avoid piling up heavier fruits on top of soft (skinned) fruits.

For six generations Emile Henry has remained true to their historic location in Marcigny, deep in the heart of Burgundy and indeed their absolute passion for ceramics and maintaining the traditional skills needed to truly master it. Each of their ceramic pieces are hand-crafted and personally signed by the craftsmen in their workshops – an intimate tradition of over 170 years delivered from their home to yours.
